Materials Used, during its early years of development, the lounge was made from natural materials like wood and rattan, which were often carved with stylized designs. With the modern times also came the modern materials like plastic and metal although wood is still the most popular material mainly because of its beauty, durability and versatility. Nowadays, the most popular wood materials for use in pieces of chaise lounger furniture are cedar and teak. These woods are known for their weatherproof properties as well as their excellent grain patterns.
Most pools are lined with many chaises and if you go on a cruise you will also see them lining the deck of the ship. The materials used to make them are mostly aluminum, plastic or wood and you can get them to match just about any budget. They can look like expensive furnishings that are very strong. They are also made out of light weight materials making them easy to pick up and take with you. A lounge allows you to recline up off the ground so the portable type is popular to take to the beach so you sit above the sand.
The aluminum chaise lounge will probably not last very long. The nylon strips tend to get frayed and break after awhile and the frame tends to bend. The plastic type tends to get brittle after a few years of sitting in the sun and they crack and break. There are also resin frames that you can get that will last a bit longer but they too tend to get brittle after several years in the sun. Resin frames require a separate cushion just like the plastic variety.
Since its first appearance some 300-some years ago in France, the chaise lounge has come a long way as far as design of form. From the very first model came modifications like the Recamier, the Duchesse Brisee, and the Meridienne. Today, the chaise lounge has also crossed into the outdoor domain, where it enjoys a good deal of popularity in gardens, on decks and in backyards. Here are some differences between indoor and outdoor chairs.
